Let?s face it. We rarely treat our cars as well as we should. From parking in narrow spaces to whipping open the door without looking, we take risks all the time. Inevitably, these risks lead to results. In this case, we are talking about banged up doors, scratches on the body and so on. In worse case scenarios, we get in an accident that does some serious damage. Regardless of the specific situation, an auto body shop is the place to go to get it fixed.
The services provided by an auto body shop tend to vary. Some specialize in certain types of fixes while others focus on other areas. Regardless of their specialty, most auto body shops provide some basic, uniform services. These can include things such as repainting a car. If you have dings and scratches, nearly every shop will be able to handle them for you. All shops should be able to handle a major damage situation resulting from an accident where you were innocently smashed into by that jerk! Well, the first step will be to analyze the damage looking from the interior out. Structural problems are identified and fixed first. After that, the body panels are checked. Most cars have detachable panel systems that allow for relatively easy replacement. After the panels are replaced, the car is sent for painting. Painting can be a touchy thing with older cars. A good painter will be an artist. Why? They must match the new paint to the old paint on your car. It can be tricky after a few years of wear and tear in the sun.
With auto accidents, you will hopefully have car insurance that covers the damage. In such a situation, you can be assured the shop involved will be a full service outfit. Put another way, the shop will be able to handle all areas of the repair. If you don?t have insurance, you need to get a clear understanding of what the shop can and cannot do. Some shops tend to specialize in certain areas and send the car out to other shops for other work. The problem, of course, is you don?t know if the other shops are any good.
Sometimes the purpose of the auto body shop is not to perform the actual work. Auto body shops can be used by insurance adjusters to determine a monetary value to damage. This estimated cost of repair can be used in the settlement of an insurance claim. Estimates are sometimes used as loss value in law suits resulting from accidents.
