The Possibilities of Automobiles Powered By Air!
A Development that I've been keeping an eye on since the late 1998 is a company called MDI, now established in Spain the business was established in France by an inventor named Guy Negre who's background in the car racing business supplied his inspiration.
MDI has created a high performance Auto mobile that runs completely on compressed air technology. In comparison to traditional gas powered engines, the compressed air based technology is infinitely superior in regards to energy used and thermodynamics.
More information regarding the MDI Air Car:
The technology for an air-powered motor has been around for a number of years however Mr Negre has perfected it and readied it to be fully commercialized on a worldwide scale. The 2 main benefits of this technology are fuel savings for the driver, and the beneficial environmental impact it will have could be astounding. It seems that these Air-Powered racers are ready to take the world by storm.
Different than electric automobiles or hydrogen powered automobiles, the AirCar is not expensive and don't possess a restrained distance range. MDI automobiles are low-priced and have a performance grade that compares favourably with current measures. To summarise, they are non-expensive cars that have a very small environmental footprint and are simple to get about cities in.
The AirCar is safe, dependable does not cause pollution, does not have fuel that can explode, it's not toxic and it's also very affordable. The company plans to make two versions -- a three-seat compact called the Minicat priced at $9,850 and a six-seat sedan for $16,000 called Citycat.
The operations of the AirCar, include an electrical pump that forces air into a tank. The air in turn move pistons that take the vehicle up to 70 mph. The vehicle can travel 50 miles at the greatest speed on a full tank, and much farther if travelling at more reasonable levels. They're currently developing models that have even greater distance capabilities, and also hybrid versions that meld additional energy options to allow for for limitless range. They're somewhat costlier but attain higher levels of speed and greater range by running on a combination of compressed air and regular gasoline or bio-fuels derived from organic matter. MDI says the air-only versions satisfy the demands of almost all urban drivers, that drive shorter distances each day.
The Minicat and Citycat will both be available with air only engines. They have been designed for city driving conditions where speeds of 50kmh and below are the norm. The MDI cars are positioned perfectly for new laws that will charge a tax on gas-polluting engines that are driven in cities. You can see reference to this in London, where there is already a fee for driving an automobile in the city limits.
The hybrid-type engine, has been created for the open road as well as for city driving, and will be available as an option in all MDI vehicles. The engines will run exclusively on air when driving below 50 km/h in urban centers. When the automobile is driven outside cities at rates over 50 km/h, the system will transition to fuel mode. The hybrid engine will operate on gasoline, bio fuel, bio diesel, ethanol, alcohol, etc.
The cars on-board computer will detect when the air engine is running out of fuel and switch to the alternative fuel source for the 2, 4, or 6 cylinder engines.
The Air-only models have Zero emissions. According to MDI the only exhaust is hot air coming from the tail pipe.
